Colombia Single Origin Coffee: Dried Orange, Berry & Chocolate from Medellín

Colombia: The Coffee World's Most Recognized Name

Ask anyone to name a coffee-producing country and Colombia is almost always the first answer. It's not just brand recognition — Colombia has earned its reputation through decades of producing consistently excellent, balanced, and approachable coffee that drinkers around the world keep coming back to.

At Foxhole Coffee Co., our Colombia single origin comes from smallholder farmers in the Medellín region of Antioquia — one of the country's most celebrated coffee-growing areas. Here's what makes it special.

Where It's Grown

Our Colombia is sourced from Medellín, Antioquia — a region nestled in the Andes mountains at 1,300–1,500 meters above sea level. This altitude is the sweet spot for Colombian coffee: high enough to slow the cherry's development and concentrate its sugars and acids, but not so extreme that yields suffer.

The soil is volcanic loam — rich, well-draining, and packed with minerals that feed the coffee plant and contribute to the cup's complexity. Combined with Colombia's near-perfect coffee climate (warm days, cool nights, and reliable rainfall), Antioquia produces some of the country's most consistent and expressive beans.

The Farmers

This coffee is grown by smallholder farmers — independent growers who tend their own plots, often just a few acres each. These aren't industrial operations. They're families who have been growing coffee for generations, with deep knowledge of their land and a personal stake in the quality of every harvest.

Smallholder farming produces some of the world's best specialty coffee because the attention to detail at the farm level is unmatched. Every cherry is hand-picked at peak ripeness — something large-scale mechanical harvesting simply can't replicate.

The Varieties

Our Colombia is a blend of four classic varieties: Castillo, Caturra, Colombia, and Typica. Each brings something different to the cup:

  • Castillo: Disease-resistant and productive, with a clean, balanced profile
  • Caturra: A natural mutation of Bourbon, known for bright acidity and citrus notes
  • Colombia: Developed for rust resistance while maintaining cup quality
  • Typica: One of the oldest arabica varieties, prized for its sweetness and clarity

Together, they create a cup that's greater than the sum of its parts.

Processing: Fully Washed

Our Colombia is fully washed and dried in solar dryers — covered drying structures that protect the coffee from rain while allowing airflow. Washed processing removes the fruit before drying, producing a clean, bright cup where the bean's inherent flavors shine without the influence of fermented fruit.

The solar dryers ensure consistent, controlled drying — critical for preserving the delicate flavors that make this coffee stand out.

Flavor Profile

The result is a cup that's bright, balanced, and layered:

  • Dried orange — a citrus note that's warm and sweet rather than sharp
  • Berry — subtle red fruit that adds complexity and depth
  • Chocolate — a smooth, satisfying finish that grounds the brighter notes

It's the kind of coffee that rewards attention — the more you slow down and taste it, the more you find.

How to Brew Colombia

Colombia's balanced profile makes it versatile across brewing methods:

  • Pour over — the clean extraction highlights the orange and berry notes beautifully. See our Pour Over Guide.
  • Drip coffee maker — consistent and crowd-pleasing every morning
  • Aeropress — great for a concentrated, flavor-forward cup
  • Cold brew — the chocolate and berry notes come through exceptionally well cold. See our Cold Brew Guide.

The Foxhole Take

Our Colombia is the kind of coffee that earns a permanent spot in your rotation. It's not trying to be exotic or challenging — it's trying to be excellent, every single time. Bright enough to be interesting, smooth enough to drink every day, and complex enough to keep you coming back for another cup.
