The Foxhole Method: How to Brew the Perfect Cup Every Time

There's a reason soldiers have always found a way to brew coffee in the field — because a great cup isn't a luxury. It's a necessity. At Foxhole Coffee Co., we believe the same discipline that goes into our roasting process should go into your brew. Here's how to do it right.

Start with the right grind. Grind size is everything. For a drip machine, go medium. For a French press, go coarse. For pour-over, medium-fine. Pre-ground coffee is the enemy of a great cup — grind fresh, every time.

Water temperature matters more than you think. Boiling water scorches the grounds and kills the flavor. Pull your kettle off the heat and let it sit for 30 seconds. You're aiming for 195–205°F. That's the sweet spot where the good stuff extracts without the bitter.

The ratio is your foundation. 1 to 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 oz of water. Adjust to taste, but start here. Don't eyeball it — measure it. Precision is a habit worth building.

Bloom your grounds. If you're doing pour-over or French press, pour just enough hot water to saturate the grounds and wait 30 seconds. This releases CO2 and opens up the flavor. It's the step most people skip. Don't skip it.

Patience is the final ingredient. Don't rush the brew. Don't press too fast. Don't pour too quick. Let the process work. The best things — like a well-roasted single-origin bean — take time.

Foxhole Coffee is built for people who take their coffee seriously. Whether you're at a base camp, a deer stand, or your kitchen counter, brew it right. You've earned it.
