Coffee and the Outdoors: Why They've Always Gone Together

There's something about being outside that makes coffee taste better. This is not a coincidence.

Part of it is sensory. Cold air sharpens everything — the smell of coffee hits differently when you're standing in the woods at 6 AM than when you're in a climate-controlled kitchen. The contrast between the warmth of the cup and the chill of the morning is something you can't replicate indoors.

Part of it is context. Coffee at a camp stove means you're about to do something. You're about to hike, or hunt, or fish, or just sit in the quiet and watch the light change. The coffee is the starting gun. It means the day is beginning and the day is going to be worth something.

Part of it is earned. Coffee tastes better when you've worked for it — when you carried the beans in your pack, when you built the fire, when you heated the water and waited and poured carefully. The effort is part of the flavor.

At Foxhole Coffee Co., we roast for the outdoors. Not exclusively — we roast for the kitchen counter and the office desk and the 5 AM alarm too. But the outdoors is where coffee started, and it's where it still tastes best.

Get outside. Bring good coffee. That's the whole plan.
