Chupacabra drinking Foxhole Coffee S'mores blend at a Texas campfire

Chupacabra Showed Up to Our Campsite. Turns Out He Just Wanted Coffee.

The stories always make Chupacabra sound terrifying. Glowing red eyes. Spines down his back. Drains livestock dry in the night. We get it — the reputation is not great.

But here's what the stories leave out: he's been misunderstood this whole time. He doesn't want goats. He wants coffee. Specifically, he wants our S'mores blend, which — fair enough — smells incredible at 2 AM in the Texas hill country.

We were three days into a camping trip when he showed up. Heard something circling the campsite around midnight. Saw the eyes in the treeline. Most people would have packed up and left. We poured a cup and set it on a flat rock about ten feet from the fire.

He waited. Watched. Then crept forward on those weird digitigrade legs, sniffed the cup, and sat down right there in the dirt and drank it.

He came back the next two nights. We started leaving a cup out before bed. By night three he was sitting close enough to the fire that we could see him clearly — and honestly, he just looked tired. Like a creature who'd been misunderstood for decades and was finally somewhere warm with a good cup of coffee.

We left him the rest of the bag when we broke camp. Seemed like the right thing to do.
